Acoger Al Hermano Es Acoger A Jesus / Welcoming A Person Is Welcoming Jesus

Acoger al hermano es

Acoger a Jesús

Welcoming a Person Is

Welcoming Jesus

The first reading of this Sunday tells the story of a woman who made room in her house to welcome a traveler. It is not said that the woman knew that he was a prophet. Elisha simply passed by The woman offers what she has: a room to rest and food to replenish his strength. The law of hospitality is an ancient one in many cultures and also in the Hispanic culture. It is a value that should not be lost but one to cultivate and strengthen.

The words of Jesus in the Gospel give us the profound reason why hospitality becomes, for the Christian, something more than just a norm or a tradition. Jesus tells us that receiving the one who comes to us, opening our home and providing our friendship, is like receiving Him; that is the key. Jesus himself is the one who passes before our door and our life. Jesus is the one who calls us and asks us for shelter.

In our world, hospitality is being lost. We see the others, the strangers— who are the vast majority—as a threat to our tranquility and to our peace. Newspapers are full of news of murders, robberies, and other wrongdoings. Television brings us disturbing images almost daily. Everything contributes to create an environment in which distrust of the stranger who approaches us seems the most natural thing to do. We greatly value—perhaps too much—our security, our peace, and our things. We end up buying alarms and weapons to protect ourselves, and putting fences around our homes. Nations do the same; the borders are reinforced and the armies are armed to the teeth. We do not realize that this way, we do nothing more than expose our own insecurity; and, in the end, provoke more violence. In some way, we resemble the animals that attack because they are afraid.

Jesus invites us not to live so self-centered; that is what it means when he says that we must “lose our life.” Jesus asks us to look beyond the tip of our nose, our problems, and extend a helping hand to our neighbor, even if he thinks differently or is from another race, speaks another language or practices a different religion. We will meet a person with problems similar to ours, and we will discover that together we can be happier than separated by barriers and weapons. From our faith, we know that the person we have in before us, however menacing or different that seems, is our brother; he is Christ himself. Will we wait for him with a gun in our hand.

For Reflection

Am I open to dialogue and to encounter others? Do I feel threatened by those who are different from me or think differently? What does Jesus tell me in the Gospel? What attitudes do I have to change to act as a Christian?

Oración Al Corazon De Jesús Por Los Misioneros / Prayer To The Heart Of Jesus For The Missionaries

PRAYER TO THE HEART OF JESUS FOR THE MISSIONARIES

O, Heart of Jesus, look at the lands of infidels and the work of the missionaries, who, for your love and for the souls so dear to you, have abandoned their home, their homeland and their most intimate affections. Bless their labors and grant them the grace to share the bread of the divine Word among the beggars of Truth. Make them feel that You are with them in their labors and worries, and give them the grace to persevere to the end in the life of self-denial for which you have chosen them: Sacred Heart of Jesus, for the sake of your own glory, protect the efforts of your Missionaries. Amen.

El Trabajo Misionero / Missionary Work

MISSIONARY WORK

The importance of missionaries

Since the beginning of Christianity Jesus Christ ordered his disciples to be missionaries. The command is clear and direct: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). After some time, Christians, whether by fleeing persecution or fulfilling the mandate, preached the gospel throughout the world. In our day it is difficult to think that there is a place in the world where they do not know Jesus of Nazareth. There are questions that have been analyzed today to determine if the words of Jesus Christ are still in force or need to be set aside because they have already been fulfilled. One of these questions is the work of the missionary. I will briefly present a reflection of the missionary and his/her work.

What is missionary work? Today it means to teach the message of Jesus Christ to people from cultures different from the missionary’s. It is generally thought of those societies that have not heard the gospel or where the penetration of this gospel has been very weak. We can add to this list those regions where the gospel has been distorted.

How is missionary work done? A missionary must prepare first. The areas of preparation are the study of the Bible and Christian doctrines, the knowledge of the society where it will go (history, customs, political and social organization, and laws) and language or dialect. The second step is to adapt to the society. You must visit the society and meet it personally. Finally, the missionary must adapt the message of the gospel to the society so it is understood in the right sense and thus, facilitate conversions. The objective of the missionary should be to form local churches within that society and help them until they can be autonomous and grow under their own impulse, in the hope that once this has been achieved the missionary will have fulfilled his work satisfactorily.

Summary: Missionary work is important and necessary in our day. There are still many places that live apart from God. There is a great revival in which he has already begun to send missionaries to other parts of the world. May God bless the work of those who extend their kingdom and fight the good fight. Amen.
