CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT (CCHD)
In 1970, Catholic bishops of the United States established the CCHD as a national program for the fight against poverty. They realized that the work done by established charitable services were not generating the necessary changes to keep people out of poverty. In addition to their direct service programs, the bishops saw the need to address policies and systems that serve to perpetuate poverty. The CCHD funds programs of economic and community development in the United States that help the poor and marginalized people come together to make decisions, find solutions to local problems, and find ways to improve their lives and their neighborhoods according to Catholic social teaching. The economic development initiatives help to establish new businesses, create new jobs and develop properties and goods that belong to families and communities. The CCHD also provides Catholics educational opportunities to learn about poverty, interact with those who are affected by it, and reflect on how to respond in faith. Our collection next Sunday, November 22 will go to the relief fund CCHD; you can come prepared and offer your help for this program.
